INCA Vendor Interview - Cerridwen's Cauldron

Cerridwen's Cauldron

Store

Every MadPeas hunt has a theme or definite feeling about the game that they create. What do you feel is the feeling that jumps out at you with this game?

It reminded me of the classic Archaeologist-Adventures theme, like the Indiana Jones movies or, a that old-school game Pitfall. I love the idea of there being traps and you being able to die while at the quest. It makes it much more exciting and engaging than a simple "look for the hidden item" hunt. Its not really a hunt actually, its a quest. And that's much more exciting as a designer.

When you heard that the players can actually die in the game, what was your initial reaction to that?

To be honest I snickered. I could imagine the players blowing themselves, dying on lava, traps, and all manner of ways. It kind of reminded me of my old Dungeons & Dragons days as a Dungeon Master when I had a lot of fun creating beautiful settings in which to kill the players on devious ways.

MadPeas is notorious for making things difficult and it shows by the amount of times people ask for help or more hints. We have the helpers in the pea group that love to do so. Did you have a lot of people asking for help with your store? Do you hide your item very sneakily or are you more kind to your fellow hunters?

No, I do not make it easy. Its a hunt after all! Of course, if I see someone who has been roaming around for a long time I often ask if they are stuck and if they are I give them a hint. And of course that also applies if someone asks me for help. It happens, the request for help I mean, but not as often as you think. I guess this is because the helpers in the pea group really do help a lot people who has become stuck.

Please tell us a little bit about your store and your products?
(how did you get started in Second Life?)

As I mentioned on my previous interview for Madpea, I started on SL with the explicit purpose of creating content, though it was almost half a year before I felt I knew enough about sculpting, building, scripting, etc., to release my first retail sets. Now Cerridwen's Cauldron is a popular brand that specializes in high quality, high customizability fantasy plant sets and structures, though I do a little of everything.

What is the prize that you made for the Lost Treasure of the Inca Warrior?

It had to be Incan themed of course! I did a mystic pool based on the idea of molten flowing gold: The Mystic Pool of Llanaganati; made partially from mesh with custom textures, and a cool animated splashing surface you can actually get into. And of course, the flowing molten gold faucet.
What do you think of the game play and the story that builds the game?

Simply said, I think this will redefine SL hunts. Madpea really went above and beyond on this one, and I know everyone involved worked incredibly hard on it.
And also, the prizes are really amazing.

Have you had a favorite experience with any of the hunt member(s)?

Well, something that has happened several times and always makes me smile is when one of the Peas that had not been over to my sim before sends me an IM (I am often working on my private work area on the sim) to let me know how much they enjoy the sim, how beautiful they find the landscape to be and that they were so glad to find it through the hunt.

What is your favorite thing about being involved with this game?

The high quality of it all: everything involved is top notch, the organization, the hunt huds and elements, the landscapes created for the hunt itself, the staff, the stores involved and the prizes. Its all very high quality, so I am very glad to take part of something with such high standards.

What would you like to say to the Peas that have or have not done the hunt?

Do it! I think this kind of hunt will be a benchmark of a new type of hunts and games. I know for certain that the Fantasy Faire hunt will be partially inspired on this new kind of adventure-quest. Besides, the prizes are really amazing and unique!

Thank you for taking part in this interview. It has been a pleasure!

The Key of Hope Hunt - Part One!

Fantasy Faire 2013 and Madpea Productions are proud to present the Key of Hope Hunt - Part One!

This magical adventure will send you exploring across the beautiful  Fairelands sims in search of precious ingredients needed to forge a talisman that will grant you safe passage into the Valley of Ish'Nar. Rewards await those that make the long journey!

Part One will run April 23 - April 28 only, so you must hurry and buy your HUD for 100L and start your adventure before it's too late! Part 2 is coming soon!

http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Valley%20of%20IshNar/145/197/23

The story begins...

For a thousand years and more, the demon prince Val’baan ruled over the land with fear. Then, a child was born who would grow to be his nemesis. This had happened before, but Val’baan was possessed of enough brains to maintain an intelligence network that alerted him to possible threats before they were too great to crush.  This time, however, the girl was raised in secret by people ready for the time, and when she grew to womanhood the demon’s fate was inevitable. A quest, a battle, an overcoming followed, and the sun rose over the world once more. Kiana and her companions fought for three days to drive Val’baan first back into the valley, then to the temple which had been the seat of Val’baan’s power – his final redoubt. Two hundred men and women began that fight, ninety reached the entrance to the valley and only eight were alive to see Val’baan trapped as Kiana read from the scroll and completed the ritual of binding. Each of these took their place at one of the eight outer seals, with Kiana herself bringing them together in the center. The heroes’ strength was thus combined to forge a lock that could never be opened again, from within or without.

However…

Fuzz the Unyielding,  who had stood with Kiana from almost the very beginning, held a secret – he was wounded. The Demon Prince’s ice-blade had caught him a glancing blow, so slight it went unnoticed in the chaos, and it festered within him. For all his purity of purpose and his resolve, the wound was enough corruption to weaken the Western seal that was his responsibility, and that weakness was taken by the ritual of binding into the great seal itself. The door was cracked, and Fuzz suddenly succumbed to his wound less than a day after the heroes finally parted to return to their homes.

The Bard Queen, however, could feel the darkness rising once again. She passed word to the kings of men and elves, and gave orders to her storytellers to ensure that all would know danger loomed once more.

“Find us our champions,” she said, “That we may remain safe another century. Call those of heart, and courage, and strength. Send to me those who would stand for what is right, and who do not fear the labor and the pain of that standing.

“Send me heroes.”

The call was raised, and those of such a stature answered. They came to the Fairelands, to the Junction, and set out upon their quest…

INCA Vendor Interview - Virtual Decay

Virtual Decay

Store

Every MadPeas hunt has a theme or definite feeling about the game that they create. What do you feel is the feeling that jumps out at you with this game? What do you feel?

Besides the bloated tummy from drinking that horrid Inka Cola?

MadPeas is notorious for making things difficult and it shows by the amount of times people ask for help or more hints. We have the helpers in the pea group that love to do so. Did you have a lot of people asking for help with your store? Do you hide your item very sneakily or are you more kind to your fellow hunters?

I haven't had many people asking me about help, but thats probably because I look pretty scary and mean. I did try to hide the object as good as I could, but I think people didn't have a hard time locating it.

So be honest, how many times did the caves take your life before you were able to complete the game. (if not completed) how many times have you lost your life up to this point?

well, lets leave it to that that i died 6 times just to get through the initial cave wall that I had to blow up.

Please tell us a little bit about your store and your products?
(how did you get started in Second Life?)

I signed up with my first AV in January of 2007 during the great Hype. After the initial pixelsexin' and camping for lindens rush wore off, I shifted my attention towards making stuff. My first products were actually static poses.. that didn't really work out. So I moved towards t-shirts. Using the free t-shirt templates available online, together with some images and funny lines, I ended up with an actual line of products! I came up with a store name, Cloud 9.1, and went shopping for a store building. By this point I never even rezzed a single prim, so buying something was my only option.
I knew I didn't want a "standard" store building, so I found a cool sim where they were selling industrial type buildings and I ended up buying one. a bunker! To make a long story somewhat shorter. That build made me want to build myself. So I made a store sign, and then some more, and then all of a sudden, I made my first bunker.. If you have visited my sim lately, I have come a long way from then.

What is the prize that you made for the Lost Treasure of the Inca Warrior?)

Coming up with a good idea for the hunt wast that easy. The inca theme was at first not that compatible with my usual style. But google was my friend. I stumbled upon inca kola, and started reading about the brand. I liked the images I found, the colors and the logo, so I decided to build a low land impact decorative building.

What do you think of the game play and the story that builds the game?

I really like the interactivity of it all. The immense level of detail in both the build as in the story is amazing.

Have you had a favorite experience with any of the hunt member(s)?

I do not interact that much with the people that visit my sim. But I am a silent lurker. I have my Draw Distance set very high so I cam all over my sim and see what they are up to. I must say that I am very impressed with the majority of the people wearing the Peas tag, they all look fantastic!

What is your favorite thing about being involved with this game?

Besides the fact that a lot of new people had a chance to come and explore my sim, I like the level of professionalism coming from the MadPea's organization. I know Kiana from way back and I tip my hat to her for setting up such a great team of dedicated creative souls, and to be able to be a (small) part of that makes me proud.

What would you like to say to the Peas that have or have not done the hunt?

to the peeps that have done it, I say Congrats! and enjoy your prizes!, to the ones that didn't I say get off your lazy behinds and get exploring!

Thank you for taking part in this interview. It has been a pleasure!

Fantasy Faire 2013 begins today!

Are you excited? We sure are! For the fifth year in a row the Fantasy Faire will be celebrating with some of the best designers, role players and enthusiasts of the fantasy life in the virtual world.

This year the faire will spread across 8 sims, each sim with its own theme.  The sims have been created by some of the top designers in Second Life. The sims are not meant to be thought of as separate place but as one wonderful connected faireland.  Here are the sim themes:

Crimson Fields (by Laufey Markstein) – The field of Oblivion will be built as a homage to Stephen King’s “Dark Tower” series, and will feature a central, gothic and ominous dark tower, in a wide open field of overgrown thorns and scarlet red roses. The stores builds will hint at the long-gone remains of similar gothic structures, roof-less, with time-eroded stone walls entwined in overgrown rose thorns.
Crimson Fields

The DragonSpire (by Khyle Sion) – A barren land of stone and crystal, hiding its lavish secrets beneath the shell of the earth. The native Goblins, Drow, Dwarves and Nixies reside in the fruitful tunnels, lorded over by a Dragon and his horde. Veined with phosphorescent ores, freshwater streams and exotic fungi, these deep caverns hold remnants of a lost civilization.
The DragonSpire

Evensong Woods (by Searlait Nitschke) –  Resting in the treetops of is the elven enclave of Yuale Nura. Bathed in moonlight, the homes glow warm in the deep blues and purples of a winter’s night. A light dusting of snow gives the impression of undisturbed slumber, but perhaps all is not as quiet as first impressions suggest.
Evensong Woods

Lotus Valley Dream (by Marcus Inkpen/ Sharni Azalee) – The spirit world touches the material plane in this garden of bonsai trees and waterfalls surrounding an ancient pagoda.  With such mystical elegance everywhere you look, this is a place to still your mind and connect with the magic within.
Lotus Valley Dream

Lumenaria (by Kayle Matzerath) – A vast City with lots of colorful houses, shops and a huge castle where the main streets meet. A tribute to the sun and all the golden harmony it brings, the city of Lumenaria is a beacon of hope to any who seek refuge from the dark.
Lumenaria

Magnificat (by Alia Baroque) – The Relay Royales kindly invite you to their summer palace and gardens for a week of divertissment, plays, games and leisure to Celebrate Life and Magnify our Souls.
Magnificat

Ravenshard (by Mayah Parx) – Where beauty has lost its perfection to a collection of twisted shards reflecting the wondrously literalistic minds of Burton, Pratchett, and Dahl. The lands will be distinct.

Ravenshard

The shops anything but square, and some may even have feet! Be warned. It’s funky, it’s fun, and it’s anything but straight! MadPea Store is on this sim!
MadPea Store

Titans Hollow (by Elicio Ember) – The cliff city of Caras Calar dangles high above ground, suspended from the fickle rock formations. The Structures are made of a filigree of crystal, wood and metal, and hung with gigantic chains from the columnar cliffs giving the appearance from below of huge floating lanterns. The sunken valley over which the city hangs is forested with strange vegetation and irrigated from waterfalls plunging from the sheer cliffs. Legend has it a battle between ancient gods created this strange scenery.

INCA Vendor Interview - SN@TCH

SN@TCH

Store

Every MadPeas hunt has a theme or definite feeling about the game that they create. What do you feel is the feeling that jumps out at you with this game? How did you feel?

I love a good adventure game, especially one that builds suspense and has you jumping at every turn. I think Lost Treasure totally captures that feeling of apprehension and dread that any wrong step can have dangerous results and they DO!

When you heard that the players can actually die in the game, what was your initial reaction to that?

That's my fave part! Knowing that any moment things can go from bad to worse and even end your life...well the survival horror fan in me really gets excited about that. It gives the game a new level of seriousness. I want to survive!

MadPeas is notorious for making things difficult and it shows by the amount of times people ask for help or more hints. We have the helpers in the pea group that love to do so. Did you have a lot of people asking for help with your store? Do you hide your item very sneakily or are you more kind to your fellow hunters?

Usually when I do hunts I make it pretty easy but I have to admit, I didn't with this one. I know the Mad Peas group has some of the best gamers out there playing and I didn't want them to be disappointed and make it too easy. My item would be easy to find for me because I do the one thing that people in SL find to hard to do when they're hunting...I look UP LOL

 Ivey Deschanel

Please tell us a little bit about your store and your products?
(How did you get started in Second Life?)

Sn@tch is and has a little bit of everything though my designs focus primarily on Alternative, Punk, Gothic and Casual Clubwear, Clothes and Accessories. I've been designing in SL for almost 6 years. I started out just making things for friends that we wanted and couldn't find and it just snowballed. I never thought I would be able to do this for a real life job but I've been pretty successful and once I was able to quit my RL job and do this full time, I never looked back! We have a 1/4 sim main store on Snatch City and about 20 branch locations as well as an outlet store on the Pulse Sim.

What is the prize that you made for the Lost Treasure of the Inca Warrior?

I did what I think I do best, clothes lol. I made a mesh Tee with an Incan graphic design for the guys and a cool bright high-waisted Incan woven pattern skirt for the ladies. Both I think fit with the theme and will give the players something to wear that reminds them of the experience of playing the game. Hopefully the players like!

What do you think of the game play and the story that builds the game?

I think the story is the MOST important part of the game experience. It's what builds tension and gets the player involved and invested in the gameplay. The more involved you are in the story, the more you have to lose....or WIN.

Have you had a favorite experience with any of the hunt member(s)?

Oh I've gotten some really sweet notes and IMs from the Peas thanking me for the prizes. One that was especially nice from a new blogger Shaia Slade who really enjoyed it and found my store from doing the hunt! Also as some know, I create games as well in SL with my partner Roblem Hogarth and a great team of builders and scripters at Pulse Games. We've been doing a huge interactive Halloween Horror game for the last 6 years and we've had a lot of support from the Peas and we've tried to make that mutual and support Mad Peas in return! I have to admit I always get a little excited when I see Kiana at our games. I know if she likes it, we did well LOL

What is your favorite thing about being involved with this game?

The most important thing to me is to promote gaming and game creation in Second Life. I think it's a VERY underutilized medium. SL is the perfect place to do this. I have had more fun creating games and playing them myself than anything else I've done in SL. I'm a gamer first and foremost!

What would you like to say to the Peas that have or have not done the hunt?

First off, thank you to the players. Without you we wouldn't have a reason to do things like Lost Treasure or any other games. We love to scare you, make you think, give you a challenge and satisfy your cravings for exciting experiences. So thank you for giving that to US! For those that haven't played yet....you're in for a thrilling adventure you won't forget so go play!!

Thank you for taking part in this interview. It has been a pleasure!
