Creative Writing Contest!!

The Green Mire Mystery

Breaking news from PeaTV. Many residents around The Green Mire witnessed flashing lights and unusual sounds coming out of the depths of the swamp during a recent devastating thunderstorm. After searching for many hours, local authorities finally found what appears to be a huge crater in the darkest depths of the swamp. However, they cannot figure out where it came from or even exactly what it is.

No signs of life or a meteor have been found at the site and it seems that the crater came out of nowhere overnight. The scientists are, after many hours of research, still clueless and are asking for help from local residents.

We at PeaTV encourage you to send in stories about the mysterious crater. If yours is one of the top three entries, in addition to being featured in the MadPea blog, you will be financially rewarded for your creativity:

10,000L 1st place
 3,000L 2nd place
2,000L 3rd place

PeaTV is talking now with Her Evil Highness Kiana Writer, who is the sole judge of the competition. She shared with PeaTV that she will personally contact and then announce the winners on July 6.

“All entries will be judged on creativity, how well the spirit of the swamp is captured, and overall quality of the story’s composition (how well it is written),” said Her Evil Highness. “Your story should indicate a familiarity with the backstory of The Green Mire swamp (the mystery of the missing boys).”

For information on the contest, contact Thalia Lupindo via notecard or IM. DO NOT CONTACT Kiana Writer except to submit your story via email.

Rules for the Contest:

  • Only one entry per person.
  • Only one person may author each story.
  • Entries must be written in the English language.
  • Entries must be received by June 30, 2014 via email to kiana@madpeagames.com

What to wear? PeaWear!

We all know what MadPea excels at - putting on kick-ass hunt adventures, right? We're also notorious for awesome parties, amazing sim designs, and creating totally unique and fun items for gachas, give-aways, or just because! What area of SL weren't we involved in? Clothes. We're there now . . . PeaWear is here!

A few members of our creative team collaborated to come up with a line of gaming and adventure gear.  The initial outfits - one each for female and male - are so cool!

The MadPea Female Gamer Outfit comes with a belt, holster, camo tank, jean shorts, black belts, and an accessory gun. All that for only 150L. Yes. Pick yourself up off the floor now.

Photo by Vylna Daviau (eclecticequations.blogspot.co.uk/ and www.flickr.com/photos/vylna/)

The male outfit - also just 150L - comes with a camo helmet, goggles, camo tank and cargo pants, boots, and an accessory gun. All items except the guns are mesh or rigged mesh. They come with standardized sizes (XS/S/M/L/SL) and alpha layers plus mesh guns as accessories for holster, belt, and hands.

"I find it very interesting to see how people are dressing up their avatars," says a PeaWear creator. "I like to see how we love to play with our looks and make them into special scenes to take pictures or simply to increase a part of our personality."

Photo by Noir Gothly (noir-gothly.blogspot.com/ and www.flickr.com/photos/noir_gothly/)

And how did MadPea decide to get into the clothing market?

"MadPea is the perfect place to try to bring some outfits to the games. We want hunters to feel more  immersed into the experience of a MadPea production."

Where to get PeaWear? Well, we're still designing and building the in-world store, but you can shop at the PeaWear by MadPea store on Marketplace (https://marketplace.secondlife.com/stores/159320).

20 000 Peas under the Sea - Goodbye Mad City!

December 28, 2012 was a big day for MadPea. One of our ‘Legend of the Month’ hunts was beginning: Room 326, a murder mystery inside the Silent Peacock Hotel.

The scene set for it was small, it only had a couple of streets, building props and the Hotel.
The story led players into a grid-wide hunt and eventually back to the hotel, where they crawled through a painting to inspect it up, close and personal to find out what truly happened.

by Tem Haalan

The set was beautiful with realistic looking rain, just perfect for setting a good mystery. Room 326 has been our most successful hunt to the date and when it was over a month later, it was missed by many.

Month after month I kept receiving messages about how badly people wanted that scene and the hunt back. We had never before brought back an old hunt, but if we were going to do that, it had to be done big! Due to the huge amount of requests, Mad City was born July 1st, 2013.

This was all thanks to Panacea Luminos from New York Healthscape, who allowed us to use Da Vinci Isle sim (from a group of 20 sims of New York) for two months on the promise that we will leave the builds there afterwards. Bluesean Yiyuan and Silex Zapezki, also known as the guys from Never Totally Dead created the city from scratch together with paramparamm Papp and Sasha008 Laryukov, also known as the Madonna of SL.

There is a saying that when a peacock cries, there is rain and death.. so it seemed very suitable to name the event area to the Crying Peacock park.

At first we had rain over the whole city, but sadly it was too laggy and making difficult to click on things, so we had to settle having it on one street only.

by cold Frog

Room 326 round 2 became so successful that we created a sequel: The Cry of the Peacock because people were just dying to find out more about the character behind the murders.

After that it was time for MadPea to leave Mad City, but the beautiful scenery remained.

We thought that NY Healthscape would use it and when I didn’t see anything happening before Christmas there, I contacted Panacea again, asking if we could return to Mad City and turn it into a nice snowy scene. It became full of life again and MadPea and NY Healthscape agreed on a joined mission to keep Mad City as a great place for hunts and events of all kinds.

Mad City has seen the big fundraiser called Star-Studded Celebrity Auction for Feed-A- Smile charity. Many celebrities were auctioned in order to raise over 1 million linden dollars!

We held our very first Steampunk Gacha fair and got totally into gacha!

Then we set Peas and Dwarfins loose on the Lost Mine Hunt...

Currently we have our very first Art Gacha festival going on with original art until the 31st

Many events have been hosted at Mad City, thousands of photographs and many movies have been made there...

and now it has become time to say goodbye as NY Healthscape is slowly leaving Second Life.

Thank you Panacea Luminos for your generosity, thank you store vendors, thank you 2000 weekly Mad City visitors, thank you photographers and bloggers for creating everlasting memories.

Thank you all!

The weather forecast predicts severe rain to

Warning: The rain is so heavy that it might flood the City.

Put on your wellington boots, or wear a bikini and come and join us on the demolition of this beautiful city full of memories.

The Gacha Art Festival Review

ART, ART, ART...

I Love Art!  Art is an expression of one's inner self.  Some inspired by emotion, spirituality, pure fun, or just the freedom of releasing one's demons.

The Gacha Art Festival is an amazing venue for Second Life's hidden talent. There is so much fine art at this great festival, that it makes me so excited to see what new pieces are living inside EACH gacha machine.

Upon exploration, I found that each person's Art is so UNIQUE and BEAUTIFUL and RARE. Something that every Second Life eye should behold and collect.

Each Artist has an explosion of their creative capabilities to share with the lucky participants of this Festival, and this virtual world.  Below are photos of my time in the festival.

The first photo shows Dog Dreams and Fraidy Cat from RAG Randt's collection.  You should make them a part of your collection too.  I really love the humor in these.  The machine is only L$75.  You can learn more about RAG Randt, using the following link:

Back to bach.  This artist, shares an awesome concept for the festival.  In the photo above, you can see an item created called, Bach's Spine.  It plays instrumental music (Bach/Ludwig/Reef) and you can hop on this piece of art.  Just be careful not to hurt your back! :-)  This gacha is L$50.  You can learn more about Eupalinos Ugajjin using the following link:

You can own different types of Mrs. Bones.  This collection has unique Nicole, Ho, Darth, and even Conchita Mrs. Bones.  These cute pieces of bones (art), are wearable and attach to your shoulder.
They are available when you play L$25.  Read more about Ole Etzel and what he does here:

Art + Gacha? Wait, what are you doing?

We’re hosting our first ever Art Gacha Festival at Mad City until May 31st. I haven’t seen any Art Gacha fairs in Second Life before and to us this concept was very interesting.

There are so many amazing and unique artists in Second Life, but it’s hard to actually to get hold of a piece of their imagination. Many of the great artists I know do only big exhibits or have Flickr streams. We thought that it would be amazing to be able to own some of these art pieces and display them in our homes or wearing them on our avatars.

It was an exciting and groundbreaking concept! The artists would reach a whole new audience and spread awareness of their talents and SL residents would have amazing ORIGINAL art in their homes instead of these googled imaged slapped into frames or stolen content that you see so often being sold around.

I’m not an artist and to my great surprise when we approached artists, the response from them was really mixed. Many said it wasn’t enough time (3 weeks) and we feared it would be the case since it was a quick decision for us to do this in order to have a beautiful Art Explosion at Mad City on its final days.

Some artists wanted exclusivity, and for us to pay them for that. I tried to explain that you do get paid via gacha, but it wasn’t enough.

I think the best comment was:

“I don’t know who got this idea, but it sucks.”

The main thing probably was that they had no idea what it really meant in reality.

There were some amazing artists however willing and interested in breaking some boundaries!
When the gacha festival started, it was noticed by Linden Lab and put under Editor’s Picks and it reached not only the noobs but a wide range of gacha lovers that simply surprised our artists:

“When I was first invited to take part in the Gacha Art Festival I have to admit I was a bit dubious about it, I didn't think that the sort of people who usually do 'gachas' would particularly be interested in collecting art that way. But from an artist's point of view it was a good way to get my art out to a completely different audience from those who usually visit galleries, so I dug out some animated art that I never show any more and made 2 completely new pieces just for the gacha RARE prizes.
When I was told it would cost me 1000L to set up my gacha, I really thought that was money that I should just write off, but I was keen to support MadPea in this event, so was happy to do it.

My surprise came that very same day when I saw the way that people seemed to play on the gachas.... they all seem to want to win the RARE prizes and just keep plugging it with 50L after 50L until they win the one that they want.
I was amazed and very pleasantly surprised as I am pretty sure I have never had that accumulation of sales at any art shows!
Would definitely do a Gacha Art Festival again!”

- Fuschia Nightfire -

“YARRG!? the MadPea gacha made me rich! Now I can upload so many textures. Thank you so much for inviting me and for supporting me always. MADPEA ROCKS! `v´”

- Ole Etzel -

“People seem to really like the idea of hunting exclusive art-pieces without exactly knowing what they will get. So my machine has been visited quite often so far.”
- Moeuhane Sandalwood -

“I was really surprised and honored! Happy because so many people bought items from my machine and support my art.... ( and my hair and skin shopping... muuahaha :P )”

- Thea Maiman -

“I wasn't sure how it would work or if people would be interested but I looked at it as a way of producing a small mini-series of pictures. I figured if people were interested they would give it a try, if not I had a new series of pics. My only concern when I first heard about it was the time to get the work done in 3 weeks, I would have preferred a bit more time to create but I got it done :) I just appreciate the opportunity to be a part of this, art/photography is just another creation in SL and it's kind of cool to be on the other end of the gacha experience to see how it works.”

- Sabbian Paine -

If you haven’t been there yet, visit the Art Gacha Festival to see original artworks by: Harter Fall, paramparamm Papp, RAG Randt, Sabbian Paine, Alia Baroque, Thea Maiman, Quinn Reinerman, Ole Etzel, Fuschia Nightfire, Moeuhane Sandalwood, and Eupalinos Ugajin.

Mad City is now full of art and is a great place for taking photos and movies before it’s gone.

The day of deletion is May 31st.

Hope will be doing a review of everyone’s sets soon to show you all the good stuff!

What is Gacha?
Gashapon (ガシャポン gashapon?) is widely used throughout the world for their capsule toys. It is also referred to as gachapon (ガチャポン gachapon?)." Both gashapon and gachapon are Japanese onomatopoeia, made up of two sounds: "gasha" or "gacha" for the turning of a crank on a toy vending machine, and "pon" for the sound of the toy capsule dropping into the receptacle. It is used to describe both the machines themselves, and any toy obtained from them.

Gashapon machines are similar to the coin-operated toy vending machines seen outside of grocery stores and other retailers in other countries.

Gashapon toys are often based on popular character licenses from Japanese manga, video games, anime, popular icons and a few American entertainment licenses. These highly detailed toys have found a large following among all generations in Japan, and the trend is filtering to the world, especially among adult collectors, with other popular culture influences such as anime and manga. It is not at all uncommon to see sets based on licenses explicitly for adults.

Virtually all gashapon are released in sets—each series will have a number of figures to collect. They are, by nature, a "blind purchase"; people insert coins and hope to get the toy or figure they desire. Such an amusement element may become frustrating, as one risks obtaining the same capsule repeatedly.
